Artist Statement

My process is best explained by the Taoist concept of "wu wei", which translates as "doing without doing" – action arises from an empty mind without preconception or agenda. This approach often means going through chaos to create harmony with layers, patterns, space, colors, texture and motion. Even as my composition develops more consciously, it retains the feel of spontaneity, intuitive awareness, and the initial moment. A work starts without any inkling of outcome; its development is a fascinating journey of discovery.

The freedom and challenges of abstract work help convey directly what I experience. Looking for harmony or esthetic components remains important to me.  Beauty is everywhere when we take the time to look, and it has many forms. I hope that the essence and mystery of nature, conveyed through my work, will bring serenity or playfulness in your everyday life amid the increasing turmoil of contemporary life.

"What is very important for me is when I work without working….when I walk, when I do nothing, when I eat."      Joan Miro
